What does it mean for you?

The proposals for changes in healthcare across North Kirklees and Wakefield are designed to improve and modernise services for the future. They are about:

  • Bringing care nearer to you so that as much can be delivered as close to your home as possible, when it is safe and appropriate to do that, and
  • Centralising some hospital care onto specific, specialist sites so that more expertise is available more of the time, which improves care for patients.

Many services that people go to their local hospital for will not change at all - these include outpatient appointments, visits for tests such as scans, x-rays, MRI and echocardiograms and day case surgery.

The changes were designed to:

  • Help save more lives
  • Improve outcomes of care
  • Provide a first class experience for patients
  • Keep as many services local as possible
  • Contribute to financial improvement
  • Help us meet national care standards
  • Support a move towards seven day/24 hour cover in major specialties
